| The All Important Sponge Roller |
So here are some before photos of our hallway, and one of the major keys to the project: The sponge roller. This really allowed us to get a nice mottled finish on our floors. A big shout out to the
Dibble Dabble Life Blog and
Young House Love Blog, as some of our inspiration came from them to start this project we've been wanting to do a VERY LONG TIME! I was really surprised by how easy and inexpensive this project was. No that is not to get confused with the fact that it takes some time, but then again we decided to go and paint our walls while completing this project, since if we messed up the floor before we stained it didn't matter did it? We even have a full gallon of stain left - we didn't need but one gallon to do both the living area and the hallway - the can said it only covered 250 square feet, we found it was much more coverage than that. So if you know of anyone needing a gallon of Warm Shale Semi-Transparent stain from Behr, send them my way! The big thing you will use a large quantity of is the polyurethane - go with a water based polyurethane, because it dries quicker and it doesn't have the awful smell! I was proud to say our project was a very low VOC project as well. Off to try our next DIY: The brown paper bag floor.
