Busy Busy Bee

Well, I definitely have been taking the time to renew and reposition myself and our family in 2013. How time did fly by this year. So, here are some highlights of fun adventures we've had.

Beaufort - Part II: Actually got to hang out in Beaufort, NC for New Year's. It was great fun! They dunk a Pirate and make him walk the plank, instead of dropping the ball! I was surprised how busy it actually was for a sleepy, seaside town in the winter, but we thoroughly enjoyed it (and so did our girls)! And woke up the next day, January 1, 2013, for the Annual Atlantic Beach Penguin Plunge - COLD and REFRESHING! Proceeds go to a great cause! In April, had a workshop at the Pine Knoll Shores Aquarium on Emerald Isle, so got to hang out in Beaufort - AGAIN! This time the weather was much warmer (the water still a little chilly but that didn't stop us). I highly recommend the Pine Knoll Shores Aquarium - it was a fabulous layout and I really liked the theme to include NC environments. Check them out at http://www.ncaquariums.com/pine-knoll-shores

May is very busy around school; we take our Juniors backpacking in the Pisgah National Forest, and thank goodness we had good weather, because the week we came back it was rainy! Pisgah has some great day hikes and beautiful waterfalls. http://www.hikewnc.info/

In June, we stayed local, and took some day trips to Davidson, NC and the National Whitewater Center in Charlotte. Both excellent destinations! Davidson is home to Davidson College and the grounds are absolutely beautiful! They also have a really nice farmer's market on Saturdays. The Whitewater Center is a blast! We've been there twice in the past month, once with the girls and once to go rafting. For $54 you get an all-day access pass and can raft, kayak, zip-line, climb and hike to your hearts content. We decided to do some rafting and climbing. Will have to return for the zip-line. More fun than Disney World! You don't have to pay to check it out, in fact, you can just hang out and watch everyone else raft, climb, etc. and you can sit back and have a brew or glass of wine. Kona and Kai taking a break from all the activities they've been busy doing!
